At Oasis Plastic Surgery we offer a broad spectrum of surgical procedures and nonsurgical treatments to sculpt and restore the body to a more defined and aesthetically pleasing contour. Surgical options like a tummy tuck or liposuction are designed to target stubborn bulges, lax skin and localized areas of fat that are resistant to diet and exercise. The result is a more youthful, proportionate silhouette and increased self-confidence.
Dr. Geoghegan has extensive experience in liposuction, a minimally invasive body contouring procedure that removes targeted fat cells from the body. Liposuction has been used for many years to slim and smooth stubborn areas that have been unresponsive to traditional weight loss techniques such as diet and exercise. Today, liposuction can be performed more accurately and with less pain, using the tumescent technique with or without radio-frequency assisted liposuction (RFAL). As a result, liposuction in Scottsdale is a much safer and less invasive procedure and can be performed in-office without general anesthesia in appropriate candidates.
Liposuction is ideal for patients who are in overall good health and who are maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Despite these efforts, patients still have one or more problem areas of unresponsive fatty deposits. It is important to realize that liposuction should not be thought of as a means for major weight loss, but rather, it removes localized areas of stubborn fat that are still present after patients have attempted other weight loss methods.
Liposuction can be used to remove unwanted areas of localized fat from nearly any area of the body. At Oasis Plastic Surgery we most commonly target the following areas:
In many cases, more than one area can be treated during the same procedure to reduce operating costs and recovery times. Dr. Geoghegan will develop a personalized treatment plan for you during your consultation and will also discuss options for in-office versus surgery center treatment procedure location
Liposuction can be performed on an outpatient basis, either under local anesthesia in our office or under general anesthesia in an outpatient surgery center. Dr. Geoghegan uses the tumescent technique along with traditional liposuction, power-assisted liposuction (PAL) or radiofrequency assisted liposuction (RFAL) to help patients achieve their desired results.
During your liposuction procedure in Scottsdale, several tiny incisions will be made to allow access to the fat. Next, tumescent solution which is saline mixed with a local anesthetic and epinephrine are injected to expand and firm the fat, making it easier to remove. Then a small, thin tube or cannula is then inserted through the incision to suction away the fat.
Your procedure can last from one to three hours depending on the number of areas and amount of fat being removed. Typically, no stitches are needed to close the tiny incisions after liposuction, but occasionally Dr. Geoghegan may use some dissolving sutures to close any larger incisions.
We suggest that you return to work or regular activities as soon as you feel comfortable, usually a few days after your liposuction procedure. Exercise and other strenuous activities should be avoided for two weeks. It is not uncommon to experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort in the treated area. Dr. Geoghegan will typically provide pain medication and naturopathic remedies such as Arnica and Bromelain can also be used. Compression garments are worn routinely all the time for 2 weeks and then as much as possible for another 4 weeks. Dr. Geoghegan will usually recommend massage of the treated areas beginning approximately 2 weeks after surgery.
The results from your procedure are often visible right away, but will continue to improve as swelling and bruising subside. Results typically improve gradually over a period of several months. Scars usually heal well, and will fade with time to become less noticeable. The results of your liposuction can be permanent, as long you continue a healthy and active lifestyle. Your results may be altered if you have a significant change in your weight or health status after your procedure.
Liposuction is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures. When performed by a board certified plastic surgeon such as Dr. Geoghegan, is almost always performed with no serious complications. Liposuction has only minimal downtime and a low occurrence of mild side effects. However, as with any treatment or surgery, there are a risk of complications such as infection, scarring, allergic reactions, hematoma, or unsatisfactory results. You can minimize these risks by choosing an experienced, board certified surgeon such as Dr. Geoghegan to perform your procedure and by carefully following all pre and post-surgery care instructions.
We also offer effective methods for noninvasive fat reduction such as CoolSculpting. A personal consultation with Dr. Geoghegan will help you determine the best course of treatment for your unique needs. Please call 480.264.6428 to schedule your complimentary body contouring consultation today.
