Radiesse ® dermal filler is made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel, and is injected into the skin through a simple and minimally invasive procedure. Dr. Geoghegan eases Radiesse® injectable gel under the skin to instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your “smile lines” or the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth. Radiesse® dermal filler is the ideal choice for total facial contouring. It can restore a healthy, youthful appearance, enhance your existing features, help you defy age and gravity, and increase your confidence – all without invasive surgery or scarring.
What to Expect During Treatment: Because Radiesse® injectable gel is a simple, nonsurgical wrinkle treatment, there is minimal recovery or downtime. So you can make an appointment to stop by Dr. Geoghegan’s office for treatment on the way home from work or the gym, or even while the kids are at soccer practice–and get right back to your life.
Before you go: We recommend that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDs), for at least a week prior to treatment in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site. Dr. Geoghegan may also have specific recommendations for you.
When you arrive: If this is your first visit, Dr. Geoghegan will ask about your medical history, including any allergies you may have or medications you may take, and will tell you more about wrinkle treatment with Radiesse®. Your treatment with this injectable gel does not require an allergy test.
Determining your treatment needs: Dr. Geoghegan will examine the soft tissue of your face to assess the depth of your wrinkles and folds and determine a treatment plan specific to your needs and desired look. We will take pre-treatment photographs so you can see the difference after treatment!
Before the procedure: Although anesthesia is not required, Dr. Geoghegan prefers the use topical and/or injectable anesthesia to numb the treatment area first to keep this procedure as comfortable as possible for you.
The procedure: Dr. Geoghegan will ease the Radiesse® injectable gel under your skin to augment or fill wrinkles and folds. Following the injection, Dr. Geoghegan may gently massage the treated areas. The procedure is quick and easy, the injection itself usually takes only about 15-20 minutes.
After the procedure: With Radiesse®, there is minimal recovery or downtime. For the first 24 hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize the risks of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites. After the treatment, some temporary injection-related reactions may occur, including redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in 7 days or less. If you experience swelling at the injection site, you can apply an ice pack for a brief period. Dr. Geoghegan will tell you when makeup may be applied after your treatment.
Seeing results: You should see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing. And one treatment could smooth your lines and wrinkles for up to 1 year! However, results may vary and correction is temporary. Supplemental “touch up” treatments may be required to achieve and maintain optimal results.

Dr. Geoghegan eases Radiesse® injectable gel under the skin to instantly restore your skin’s volume and smooth away facial wrinkles and folds, like your “smile lines” or “parentheses”(nasolabial folds—the creases that run from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth). Radiesse® dermal filler is the ideal choice for total facial contouring. Radiesse dermal filler is made of unique, patented, calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a water-based gel carrier. When injected into the skin, these microshperes initially perform as a filler – they immediately provide facial volume for a soft, natural look. The transformation is noticeable right away. Over time, your body will gradually absorb the gel carrier, but the very tiny, smooth microspheres remain.
Radiesse injectable gel is indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis (below the outer layer of the skin) for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (the creases running from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth, also known as the smile lines or parentheses). Additional uses are indicated for adding volume to other facial areas as well as the hands.
Dr. Geoghegan eases Radiesse® injectable gel into the skin using a fine needle to temporarily fill in and augment the treatment area and smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds) and “marionette lines” (oral commissures). Radiesse® temporarily adds volume to the skin and may give the appearance of a smoother surface.
Radiesse® injectable gel will help to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing. And one treatment could smooth your lines and wrinkles for up to 1 year. Ask Dr. Geoghegan what you should expect from your initial treatment and when she would recommend rescheduling another appointment.
Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection. The smooth consistency gel of Radiesse® allows Dr. Geoghegan to administer it easily and smoothly. And, Radiesse® is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort. Dr. Geoghegan prefers to numb (anesthetize) the treatment area to further minimize discomfort.
The injection process takes only about 15-20 minutes. You will also need to allow time to consult with Dr. Geoghegan prior to treatment.
Any authorized healthcare professional can administer Radiesse® injectable gel, but plastic surgeons, dermatologists, or physicians specializing in cosmetic procedures are generally more experienced and trained to provide this treatment.
No. Correction is temporary; therefore, touch-up injections as well as repeat injections are usually needed to maintain optimal corrections.
In many patients, the results may last for a year or more, but your individual results will vary.
Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less). The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injections site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures there is a risk of infection. Report any RADIESSE side effects to Dr Geoghegan as soon as possible.
